Mandatory Credit: Dennis Lee-Imagn Images The New York Yankees claimed infielder CJ Alexander off waivers from the Athletics and optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.
Alexander, 28, had been designated for assignment on Thursday after six games with the A's.
Alexander batted 3-for-17 (.176) with eight strikeouts in his smattering of big-league appearances. He made two starts apiece at first base and third base and also saw time in the outfield.
Alexander made his major league debut in June 2024, playing four games for the Kansas City Royals. Across his 10 MLB games, he's gone 4-for-25 (.160) with no walks or extra-base hits.
The Yankees have had injuries throughout their infield this season, most notably losing starting third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera to an ankle fracture. DJ LeMahieu and Jazz Chisholm Jr. have spent time on the IL but are now healthy.
