Yankees acquire 3B Ryan McMahon from Rockies

The Yankees will send left-hander Griffin Herring and right-hander Josh Grosz to the Rockies in exchange for McMahon, who was viewed as one of the top available positional players on the market.
New York is in need of a full-time third baseman, with Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas recently platooning at the position.
McMahon, 30, is batting .217 with 16 homers and 35 RBIs while playing a majors-high 100 games at third base this season with the Rockies. He is owed $16 million for each of the next two seasons before he's slated to become a free agent.
An All-Star in 2024, McMahon is a career .240 hitter with 140 homers and 452 RBIs in parts of nine seasons with Colorado.
Herring, 22, is the Yankees' No. 8 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. He is 7-3 with a 1.71 ERA in 16 appearances (all starts) this season split between Single-A Tampa in the Florida Gulf League and High-A Hudson Valley.
Grosz, 22, is 4-8 with a 4.14 ERA in 16 appearances (15 starts) with Hudson Valley.
