Will Middlebrooks Had Himself An Afternoon In Toronto
Will Middlebrooks beat the Blue Jays 4-0 on the strength of a three-home run, four-hit afternoon. His second shot, a two-run homer off starter R.A. Dickey in the fifth, was an absolute bomb.
Middlebrooks hit two of his three home runs (and a double for good measure) off Toronto's newly acquired ace, but he wasn't the only one to find success. All told, Dickey gave up eight runs—five in the first inning alone— in five innings.
The game was out of hand just minutes after the first pitch. Boston's Jacoby Ellsbury led off with a double, and Shane Victorino and Dustin Pedroia followed with a pair of singles. Mike Napoli delivered a two-run double, which was immediately followed by a two-run homer off the bat of Middlebrooks.
Five batters into the game, it was 5-0 Boston.
Red Sox not named Middlebrooks chipped in three more home runs and Boston beat Toronto 13-0 in the series finale.
