The 32-year-old is a former All-Star, who rose to prominence during his run with the New York Mets. In 2016, Syndergaard pitched 183 2/3 innings, posting a 2.60 ERA and 218 strikeouts.
However, injury struggles persisted, and the right-hander's performance declined. In recent years, he had brief stints with the Los Angeles Angels, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Cleveland Guardians. In 2023, he had a combined 6.50 ERA and 1.387 WHIP in 18 games of major league action.
In June, Syndergaard signed a minor league contract with the White Sox. In six minor league outings, he pitched 23 1/3 innings with a 5.40 ERA and 14 strikeouts. He did not appear in a MLB game for the organization.
