Mandatory Credit: Brett Davis-Imagn Images Kyle Teel had three hits and two RBIs, Colson Montgomery homered and four pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout as the host Chicago White Sox defeated the Minnesota Twins 8-0 on Sunday.
An early barrage against Twins right-hander Taj Bradley propelled Chicago to its first home series victory since July 28-30.
Edgar Quero added two hits and three RBIs for the White Sox and Mike Tauchman contributed two hits.
Minnesota lost for the eighth time in 10 games to fall a season-low 12 games under .500.
Teel grounded a run-scoring single to get the White Sox on the board before Quero punctuated a three-run first inning with a two-run single.
Chicago used a blend of small ball and a long ball to extend the lead in the second. Teel delivered another RBI single to start the rally, setting the stage for Montgomery's two-run blast. A rookie shortstop, Montgomery homered for the third consecutive game and has 13 home runs in 42 career contests.
Recalled from Triple-A St. Paul before the game, Bradley (6-7) spaced seven runs and nine hits in five innings with one walk and one strikeout. He faced the minimum in the third through fifth innings in his first major league appearance since opposing the visiting White Sox on July 23 as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays.
White Sox starter Yoendrys Gomez pitched 4 2/3 shutout innings, scattering two hits, three walks and six strikeouts. Gomez was pulled after surrendering a two-out single to Byron Buxton in the fifth but Brandon Eisert (3-5) kept Minnesota scoreless by retiring Trevor Larnach on a groundout.
Larnach doubled as the second batter of the game but was stranded as the Twins went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position while leaving nine runners on base.
Mike Vasil followed Eisert's 1 1/3 scoreless innings with two scoreless innings of his own. Wikelman Gonzalez worked a perfect ninth while notching one of 10 strikeouts for the pitching staff.
Chicago earned its first series victory against Minnesota since July 2023.
