What's Your Greatest Live Sports Regret?
credits: Jed Jacobsohn | source: Getty A good tweet from our deceased former colleague Cerebral Commie Aisle about the perils of leaving a game too early—
—prompted Barry to reveal that he missed out on both Derek Jeter’s “ The Dive,” as well as Jim Leyritz’s 15th-inning walk-off homer against the Mariners in Game 2 of the 1995 ALDS because he left early from both games. Nice going, dumbass.
My greatest live sports regret is more of a bad experience. Somehow, my mom scored us tickets to Game 1 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals, but a few hours before the game, I took a pitch straight to the face in a little league game. My face was all fucked up and full of holes, and I was bleeding everywhere. Because I was an idiot preteen, I pretended I could, uh, see, and we went to the game anyway because going to a Kings playoffs game was an extreme luxury. I spent the whole thing leaking blood out of my face while hopped up on strong pain meds, and I don’t think I really was able to watch much of the game. I may have passed out at one point, and I’ve never been to a Kings playoff game since (I almost certainly never will again).
Also, the Kings lost.
This isn’t really that bad (it’s certainly better than one of our commenters’ horror stories), and so we open it up to you, the readers: What is your greatest live sports regret?
