The sophomore transfer from LSU poured in a career-high 30 points in a 94-67 win over Prairie View on Wednesday night and will look to stay hot on Sunday when the Cowboys (3-0) take on Texas A&M Corpus Christi (1-3) in Stillwater, Okla.
Miller buried five 3-pointers and shot 8-of-12 from the field overall. He's averaging 22.0 points per game.
"My teammates believe in me, trust in me, and they see my work," Miller told reporters after Wednesday's win. "I appreciate them."
His teammates have taken notice of what Miller brings to the table.
"He's out there working day in and day out, and he's just super talented, super charismatic, a team-first guy always uplifting others," junior guard Kanye Clary said.
Behind Miller, Oklahoma State is off to a 3-0 start for the second straight year. They are averaging 92.0 points per game and four of the top six scorers are shooting better than 50% from the floor.
"Anytime you start 3-0, it's a good thing, but we've got to concentrate on getting better on the defensive end for consistent periods of time moving forward," Cowboys head coach Steve Lutz said.
The Islanders (1-3) won't be a pushover and are set to play their second straight Big 12 opponent after losing 77-46 to No. 25 Kansas on Tuesday.
They forced 18 turnovers, the most by Kansas this season, and scored 32 points in the paint. Franck Yetna led the Islanders with 11 points and also tallied four steals. He's averaging 7.8 points per game.
Sheldon Williams was held to just eight points against the Jayhawks but has scored 12 or more in three of his four outings, including 21 against Tarleton State on Nov. 8.
The matchup between the Cowboys and Islanders will be a reunion of sorts as Lutz coached at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi from 2021-23. Current Islanders head coach Jim Shaw was an assistant on the staff at the time.
