Vikings Defensive Coordinator Was Arrested For Drunk Driving In May
Photo credit: Hannah Foslien/ [object Object] Vikings defensive coordinator George Edwards was arrested in May on suspicion of drunk driving and charged with a DWI. He pleaded guilty to careless driving in August, but the Viking did not disclose his arrest until the Twin Cities Pioneer Press on it this afternoon.
The team did, however, release practice squad lineman Isame Faciane today after he was also arrested on suspicion of drunk driving a week ago. Head coach Mike Zimmer made a point of calling Faciane “stupid” and he also said “that’s one of the things that I’m trying to get rid of around here.” The Vikings told the Pioneer Press that Edwards had been “significantly disciplined,” but declined to elaborate with specifics.
Edwards apparently blew a .11 and is on probation for a year following his guilty plea:
Edwards, 49, was charged May 21 with 4th degree DWI and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol after being pulled over in Chanhassen at 11:46 p.m. According to the police report, Edwards blew a blood-alcohol level of .11 at the time of his arrest — .03 over the legal limit of .08 — and tested at .10 at 1:04 a.m. on May 22 at the Carver County Jail.
