Mandatory Credit: Orlando Ramirez-Imagn Images After four consecutive middling seasons and no NCAA Tournament appearances, UNLV parted ways with head coach Kevin Kruger on Saturday.
The Rebels went 18-15 overall this season and finished sixth in the Mountain West Conference with an 11-9 mark. UNLV was eliminated from the conference tournament with a 70-58 loss to Utah State in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Kruger had a 76-55 record at UNLV, where he took over the head position after serving as an assistant coach under T.J. Otzelberger beginning in 2019. He also had assistant coaching positions at Oklahoma and Northern Arizona.
Kruger played at UNLV during the 2006-07 season under his father Lon Kruger, who spent seven seasons as the Rebels head coach (2004-11) and took the program to the NCAA Tournament four times. Lon Kruger was a head coach for 35 seasons with six programs, while winning 674 games.
UNLV has gone through five different head coaches since Lon Kruger departed after the 2010-11 season, with the program already starting the process of finding a new head coach, according to a statement.
