Unhappy Nick Foles Is Skipping Rams OTAs
You can say a lot of things about that still-curious Nick Foles-Sam Bradford trade last spring, but you can’t say either team ripped off the other. Just as Bradford wants out of Philly, Foles isn’t pleased to be a third-string QB, and his making his displeasure known by his absence.
ESPN reports that Foles hasn’t shown up for any team-run training sessions since the Rams traded up to grab Jared Goff No. 1 in the draft, and skipped the start of OTAs this week. These are all voluntary so he won’t be fined, but it’s fair to say he’s trying to force the Rams’ hand into...something.
Foles signed a two-year extension when he arrived via trade, but lost his starting job to Case Keenum after nine rough games. L.A. was set for a remarkably uninspiring QB battle this season until Tennessee happily took a buttload of picks off the Rams’ hands in exchange for the right to draft Goff.
Foles already earned a $6 million roster bonus for 2016, and his base salary will be another $1.75 million, so if he didn’t come cheap for a player unlikely to see the field in Los Angeles, at least most of that cost is already sunk. That could make him an attractive trade target for a team seeking a young-but-experienced backup QB. Can we suggest, just for balance’s sake, a swap for Sam Bradford?
