Unassisted Triple Plays Are So Easy, Even A Kid Can Make One
A no-hitter. A perfect game. Hitting for the cycle. A grand slam. A 3-pitch inning. These are on my short list of things I want to see in a major league game before I die. The chances are not great. Also what if, when it happens, I'm talking to someone? What if I'm in the bathroom? What if I'm filling out my financial aid application so that I am able to purchase a jumbo hot dog and a beer? Also on my short list of things I'd like to see before I die is the rarest of all major league feats: the elusive unassisted triple play. A liner to the short stop. Step on 2nd and tag the runner from 1st. Bam-Bam-Bam, inning over. Beautiful. Only 13 have been turned in MLB history. Interestingly enough, 7 of them were turned before 1928. One happened in 1968. And the other 5 have happened since 1992. Weird. And now, joining the ranks of Jimmy Cooney, Rafael Furcal and Troy Tulowitzki, I present to you 5 year-old Jake. Say it with me: "Awwwwwww!"
