Mandatory Credit: Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images A flying knee from Gabriel Bonfim capped off a fast-paced welterweight main event at the expense of Randy Brown via second-round TKO at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas Saturday night.
Bonfim (19-1 MMA) already has a name in mind for his next fight, and it certainly is a step up in competition.
"Colby (Covington), stop running away," Bonfim said following the fight. " ... Give me the chance to take you out of the ranking right now. I'm going to retire him."
Brown (20-7 MMA) has lost two of his last three, having not won consecutive fights since June 2024.
The co-main event saw flyweight Joseph Morales continue to deliver in his second UFC stint following winning "The Ultimate Fighter" in August.
Saturday night saw the next leg of Morales's journey continue with a first-round guillotine choke against Matt Schnell. Morales (15-2 MMA) extended his winning streak to seven, whereas Schnell (17-10 MMA) is heading in the opposite direction with six losses in his last eight fights.
The start of Saturday's card was loaded with stoppage action as well. Welterweight Uros Medic wasted no time with a 63-second first-round KO against Muslim Salikhov. Medic (12-3 MMA) has won back-to-back fights, as he halted Salikhov's (22-6 MMA) three-fight winning streak that stretched back to July of 2024.
Chris Padilla also earned a second-round TKO stoppage against Ismael Bonfim in a lightweight bout. Padilla (17-6 MMA) has won seven in a row dating to Jan. 2023, while Brazil's Bonfim (20-6 MMA), who is Gabriel Bonfim's brother, has dropped three of his last five fights.
UFC Vegas 111's main card started off in a big way with middleweight Christian Leroy Duncan of England landing a spinning back fist elbow, followed by punches, to secure a second-round TKO against Marco Tulio of Brazil. Duncan (13-2 MMA) extended his winning streak to three, while Tulio (14-2 MMA) had a 10-fight unbeaten run come to an end.
