U.S. And Mexico Both Lose World Cup Qualifiers
This kid is everyone's spirit kid. He's pissed. And why not, everything about Friday night was a bummer. Before the U.S. men even dug themselves a 2-0 hole in the first 10 minutes, Michael Bradley went down with an injured ankle in the pre-game workout.
Minus Bradley, the team went on to lose to Costa Rica 3-1 and will be without Jozy Altidore, Matt Besler and Geoff Cameron, who each picked up their second yellow cards of the Hexagonal. The loss snapped U.S.'s 12-game winning streak and continued its World-Cup-qualifier losing streak in Costa Rica (0-8-1).
Happier days may be just around the corner though; U.S. is still in second place with 13 points in the Hexagonal to Costa Rica's 14. The top three teams are guaranteed a spot in Brazil and with Honduras and Mexico rounding out the top four with 10 and 8 points, respectively, the U.S. remains in the driver's seat. Tuesday night in Columbus, U.S. will play Mexico who, judging by the young gentleman above, is recovering from a bitter loss of its own, 2-1 at the hands of Honduras. A U.S. win will almost assuredly clinch a berth for 2014 in Brazil.
