Vasquez-Imagn Images Tyler Anderson allowed three hits through six scoreless innings to lead the Los Angeles Angels to a 2-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants Friday night in Anaheim, Calif.
Anderson (2-0) struck out six, walked two and did not allow a Giants baserunner to reach third base. Brock Burke, Ryan Zeferjahn and Kenley Jansen (fifth save) each pitched a scoreless inning to close it out.
The Angels offense managed just five hits, three by Jo Adell and a clutch, two-out RBI double by Zach Neto in his first at-bat of the season.
Giants starter Logan Webb (2-1) pitched outstanding, minus a second-inning glitch that cost the right-hander two runs. In all, Webb gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits with a career-high-tying 12 strikeouts and no walks.
The Angels broke through in the second inning against Webb after he began the inning with strikeouts of Jorge Soler and Logan O'Hoppe. With two outs and the bases empty, Nolan Schanuel drove the ball over the head of center fielder Jung Hoo Lee for a double.
Neto followed, and in his first game of the season after recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, hit a sharp liner at shortstop Willie Adames. Adames couldn't handle it, the ball caroming into shallow left field. Schanuel scored on the play and Neto was credited with an RBI double.
The Angels added a second run in the inning after Kyren Paris hit a slow roller between shortstop and third. Third baseman Matt Chapman booted the ball for an error, with Neto scoring to put the Angels up 2-0.
The Giants finished with four hits, two by Lee, who reached base a third time with a walk.
Anderson, the Angels' only All-Star last season, threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings in his previous start and now has thrown 12 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings.
