Tony Romo's Back Is Broken
Photo Credit: Elaine Thompson/ [object Object] Cowboys QB Tony Romo could miss six to ten weeks with a broken bone in his back.
Romo exited Thursday’s preseason game against the Seahawks after going down hard in the first quarter and did not return. An MRI revealed the injury on Friday, and the Cowboys confirmed the diagnosis on Saturday.
Head coach Jason Garrett did not, however, rule out a Romo start in the season opener in two weeks—apparently citing the fact that it would not be the first time Romo has played with a fractured back. Garrett said only that he was “ confident” Romo would play for the Cowboys this year, with no timetable.
Meanwhile, NBC’s Pro Football Talk reports that Romo will miss six-to-ten weeks with the injury, which would make rookie Dak Prescott the Cowboys’ new starting QB to kick off the season.
Romo missed most of last year with a broken collarbone, and he’s missed time with fractures in his back before.
