Toni Kroos Saves Germany's World Cup With Insane Last-Second Golazo
Germany were perilously close to seeing their chances of making it out of their group dwindle to almost nothing. Tied at 1-1 against Sweden, down to ten men with only seconds remaining in regulation, Germany needed a miracle. Then Toni Kroos did what you see above.
Germany went into halftime down a goal against Sweden. Had that result stood, they would’ve been already knocked out of the tournament. Marco Reus tied the match up early on in the second half, but Germany still needed a winner to give themselves better odds of making it to the Round of 16. Salvation didn’t seem like it was coming, especially not after Jérôme Boateng got himself sent off for a second yellow card offense in the 82nd minute.
However, from a free kick at the edge of the box in the last minute of stoppage time, Kroos saved the day. A ridiculous shot from a ridiculous angle to cap a ridiculous game.
Once the match was over, there was a skirmish on the sidelines between the German and Swedish benches:
Something tells us the Swedes weren’t congratulating the Germans on their big win.
