This Hilarious, Imaginative Icelandic Twitter Account Is The One To Follow For The Euros
“And now the unfortunate Portuguese will feel the mighty thunder of Þór’s Icelandic warriors” read the first tweet from Iceland’s English-language magazine, the , during their coverage of their teeny tiny nation’s Euro 2016 match against Portugal. It didn’t take long after that for the mag to cement its status as the early leader for the Golden Bird, handed out to the best Twitter account during Euro 2016.
Here’s a sampling of the unapologetic over-confidence (remember, this was Iceland, in their first ever major tournament, playing Portugal, who’s star player earns more Euros in a week than Iceland has citizens), the whimsical language, the staunch homerism, and clear anti-Ronaldo bias that typified the Grapevine live-tweets:
Iceland’s next game is on Saturday at 12 p.m. EDT against Hungary. Make sure to flip on the TV and pull up the Grapevine’s Twitter account so you can both see and read about the mighty Vikings’ quest to channel their inner Loki and cascade hellfire on the meek and feeble Hungarians.
