The Cleveland Indians Are Headed To The World Series
The Cleveland Indians will be back in the World Series for the first time since 1997, after they made quick work of the Blue Jays and won a fairly rote ALCS, 4-1. They won Game 5 in the same way they won most of their games this postseason: they slapped a few dongers, then Andrew Miller stifled the life out of the opposing offense.
In fact, Miller’s 2.2 innings with a hit and a strikeout (a near perfect outing by almost any standard), was his worst appearance of the playoffs. He’s given up five hits, struck out 21 batters in 11.2 innings of scoreless work, and he became just the sixth relief pitcher to win an LCS MVP award. The rest of the bullpen was also stellar, as evinced by their all-hands-on-deck Game 3 victory after Trevor Bauer’s finger turned to goo in the first inning.
As for the Jays, they never found any sort of offensive consistency. After they spent the ALDS wrecking the Rangers, they only managed to score multiple runs in two games. Sadly, their Idiot On The Field could not cajole a rally out of them.
Cleveland’s World Series opponent is still very much up in the air, but regardless of who it is, Game 1 looks like it will be a pretty crazy day in town.
