The Chill And Strong Orioles Beat The Pirates
Photo: Patrick Semansky/ [object Object] The Baltimore Orioles beat the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday night 6-5 in the 10th inning on a Mark Trumbo walk-off RBI single that came after Chris Davis and Jonathan Schoop hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh, and Schoop homered again with Davis aboard to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth. It was a close game, but the Orioles looked incredibly relaxed throughout.
Look at this sixth-inning play by Adam Jones to rob an Andrew McCutchen homer:
Is that not the most chill over-the-wall catch you’ve seen? Jones read the ball so well that he basically sauntered to the warning track, barely hopped to make the catch, and looked positively bored with the whole routine (though he had a laugh with McCutchen when the Pirates’ player gave him a playful shove on the way back to the dugout).
Then there was this throw by Manny Machado, a one-man highlight reel at third base. Watch the nonchalance with which he turns this play in the seventh:
Despite O’s starting pitcher Kevin Gausman surrendering three runs in the second inning and a home run in the sixth, the team rallied while staying loose. Ho-hum, just another game. In a currently cutthroat AL East, they’ll need to keep this attitude up.
