The Charlotte Bobcats Can't Even Beat The Spread
The Bobcats' losing streak has reached 18 games, and they're flirting with the all-time worst single-season winning percentage in NBA history. You would expect an experienced gambler to see them as a good bet because the entire world thinks so little of them. Er, no.
Turns out the 'Cats are just 4-14 against the betting line during their current skid, and Covers.com says their winning percentage versus the spread (.343) is the NBA's third-worst dating to 1990-91, which is as far back as the website's records go.
One professional handicapper says the problem is the Bobcats lack a player capable of scoring in bunches late in games to chip away at big deficits that can help them cover. Setting a betting line, then, has been tricky for a team that's lost nine games by 30 or more and 21 games by 20 or more. Or, as one oddsmaker told Covers.com:
"In this business, the wiseguys can always find a reason to back the dog. You know, a regression to the mean. But we're just not seeing that with this team."
