The Cardinals Lost Their 72nd Game
Photo: David Zalubowski/ [object Object] The Colorado Rockies clobbered starting pitcher Luke Weaver Wednesday as they beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 11-1.
Weaver was tagged for six runs and seven hits over two innings. The rookie’s biggest mistake was leaving a pitch over the plate that turned into a Nolan Arenado grand slam for a 6-1 lead.
“For it to flatten out at such a big moment right there is disappointing,” Weaver said.
Colorado added five more runs off of relievers Dean Kiekhefer and Jonathan Broxton.
Rockies starter German Marquez had a much better night. The 21-year-old pitched five innings of one-run ball to pick up his first career win.
The Cardinals are 80-72. There’s always the next game!
