The Cardinals Lost Their 36th Game
Photo: [object Object] The Kansas City Royals scored four runs in the second inning Monday and never looked back as they beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-2.
With two men on, Lorenzo Cain had the first of three consecutive run-scoring hits with an RBI single off Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright. Eric Hosmer followed up with a two-run double, and Salvador Perez drove in Kansas City’s sixth run with a single to left field.
Wainwright left after five innings with seven strikeouts, 10 hits, and four earned runs. He credited the Royals’ hitters for coming through in tough situations. From the Associated Press:
“It’s tough. You have to tip your hat, really. They did a real nice job with two strikes and two outs,” said Wainwright, who had been 4-0 in six career starts at Kauffman Stadium.
“I had two-strike counts on a lot of those guys that had two-out hits,” he said. “I made some good pitches sometimes that they hit, but not great pitches. Not exactly where I wanted them.”
The Cardinals are 39-36. There’s always the next game!
