The Cardinals Lost Their 32nd Game
Photo credit: Jeff Roberson/ [object Object] A late-innings meltdown by the Cardinals bullpen allowed Texas to surge past St. Louis for a 4-3 win on Saturday, ruining a marvelous seven innings of shutout pitching by Carlos Martínez.
The Cardinals starter allowed just four hits and a walk in his appearance, only to see the Rangers rally in the eighth and ninth innings—knocking Trevor Rosenthal out of the game before the St. Louis closer had even retired a batter. An Ian Desmond sacrifice fly with two one out in the ninth inning brought home Jurickson Profar for the decisive run.
The loss drops St. Louis to 35-32 on the season, good for second place in the N.L. Central—11.5 games behind the leading Cubs.
