The Brooklyn Nets Are Cleaning House
The Brooklyn Nets are the most aimless team in the NBA. They’re old, bad, and they don’t have any of their draft picks, on account of trading too much for Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, then watching them tailspin into irrelevancy. This morning, they fired coach Lionel Hollins and “ reassigned” GM Billy King.
The only thing surprising is the timing. Zach Lowe mentioned on his podcast the other day that he’d heard that the Nets somehow thought they could make a run to the playoffs this season, which is bananas. Today’s news seems to confirm that they have a more realistic vision for their team. Still, shaking things up right before the trade deadline is rather curious timing
The Nets are 10-27, good for second-to-last in the East. They don’t have their pick next year, and honestly, there’s no obvious solutions in sight. Hell, they can’t even tank, since they traded all their picks for old guys. At best, they can now see what they have in Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, and try and audition some of their veterans for trades.
