The 49ers-Packers Wild Card Game Is Going To Be So Damn Cold
It looks like this Sunday's Wild Card game between the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers is going to be one of the coldest games in NFL history. How cold is it going to be? Really damn cold.
The current weather forecasts for Sunday in Green Bay are a bit varied—Weather.com says the high will be -5 degrees while the National Weather Service predicts a high of 0 degrees—but one thing remains true no matter which forecast you choose to believe: that game is going to be absolutely no fun to attend.
Making things worse is the fact that the game kicks off at 3:40 local time, meaning that a decent chunk of it will be played after sunset, at which point the temperature will begin plummeting toward a low of -20 degrees. Oh, and there will be wind. Freezing, terrible wind!
According to the NFL, there have been six games played in sub-zero temperatures, the coldest being the 1967 Ice Bowl, which was played in -13 degrees at Lambeau Field. If the temperature at Sunday's game drops below -4 degrees, it will crack the top five on the list of coldest games in NFL history.
So if you're planning on going to the game, we have one piece of advice for you: Don't do that. If you ignore that advice, at least be sure to get good and drunk before you get to the stadium
