Teamwork, Wind Sends Colts-Bills To Snowvertime
A convoluted, hilarious series of events in the Colts-Bills snowglobe game allowed Indianapolis kicker Adam Vinatieri to hit the game-tying extra point late in the fourth quarter, despite near-impossible kicking conditions.
After scoring their first touchdown of the game (to conclude a 19-play, 77-yard drive!), Indy initially went for two and converted, but an offensive PI call forced them to try again. This time, they sent out Vinatieri, who’s hit from this distance probably thousands of times in his life. In the snow, however, the Colts needed their entire team to work together to even clear a viable patch of grass.
After getting help from the rest of the unit, Vinatieri got one last boost from mother nature, which sent his point-after on a ridiculous, curving path through the uprights that fooled some Bills players into thinking the game was won.
A Colts turnover gave Vinatieri another chance as regulation ended, but 43 yards out was much too far to ask, and the game is heading to Snowvertime. It’s shocking, really, that no team could gain a clear advantage in these conditions.
