Steph Curry Is Funny
Here is a shot that Steph Curry made last night. These are the things about it that made me laugh:
The sort of basketball possession that is supposed to feature half-hearted defense and a harmless heave from half-court is instead a white-knuckle, max-effort passage of play, for no other reason than the fact that the ball is in Steph Curry’s hands.
A triple-team and two guys contesting his shot wasn’t enough to stop Curry from splashing the ball from 40 feet out.
That shot—a rushed, off-the-dribble release while fading to the right—is a clean one for Curry.
The ball never even thought about touching the rim.
It’s entirely acceptable for a Clippers fan to be mad at their team for allowing Steph Curry to get a shot off from just inside the half-court line.
NBA basketball has been rapidly and fundamentally transforming in recent years, and there’s a good argument to be made that Steph Curry is as responsible for those changes as any single player can be. That shot from last night was just the latest bit of evidence.
