Stanford Withstands Comeback, Beats Kansas In Another Wild Upset
Stanford beat the No. 2 seed Kansas Jayhawks in St. Louis 60-57. Kansas was down seven with 32 seconds to go but Conner Frankamp made things verrry interesting with two consecutive three-pointers down the stretch. With 15 seconds left he drilled a deep three to cut the lead to 59-57, but that was as close as Kansas ever got. Frankamp missed badly on a tying attempt at the buzzer.
Stanford, who has now knocked off the No. 7 and No. 2 seeds in the Southern Region, was able to withstand the late comeback with solid free-throw shooting in the final minute. Anthony Brown and Dwight Powell shot 7-10 from the line to close the game out. The Cardinal now advances to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2008, which is also the last time they were in the Tournament.
