St. Louis Blues Eliminate Blackhawks From Stanley Cup 'Yoffs

That gif above you is a neat encapsulation of the sort of night the Blackhawks had tonight. The St. Louis Blues took Game 7 at home 3-2 and broke Chicago’s 18-game streak of winning in the playoffs when Marian Hossa scores. Chicago outshot their southern neighbors 33-26, but they gave up two goals in the first and couldn’t ever take the lead. This is the earliest both the Bulls and Blackhawks have been eliminated from the playoffs since 2008.

The Blues win also means that there will be a Stanley Cup winner besides the Kings or Blackhawks for the second time this decade.

Andrew Shaw was the Blackhawks’ leading goalscorer ( and slur yeller) for the series, and he tied it up in the second by bouncing it in off an opponent on a power play.

Troy Brouwer’s finish on St. Louis’ game-winning goal wasn’t particularly special, but the cross from Paul Stasny was real smooth. Brouwer’s goal was his first in the playoffs since 2013.

The Blues will take on the Dallas Stars in the second round.
