Shitty Swiss Team Cuts 11 Players After Youth Team Blows Them Out 10-0
FC Grenchen, of Switzerland's fourth division, suck at soccer. In their last nine matches, they've collected all of zero points while shipping 66—yes, 66—goals, 10 of which came at the feet of FC Luzern's youth squad. Following that horrific result, Grenchen's sporting director decided to cut 11 players.
Renato Brun, said sporting director, realized that something had to be done to stop the rot. "It sounds brutal, but these players are not good enough for this league. I am the head of sport and there to do something when [the club] is not running smoothly. I am one who talks less and does more," he told a local paper, as translated by the Guardian.
The players were reportedly upset at the ignominious way the club announced the decision: by posting a sheet of paper on the building with the canned players' names. Here's how one Grenchen player described it:
"We were merely placed on a public list", located Dedaj Dugagjin complains. The defender vehemently against the accusation of having not fought for the club. "This is completely ridiculous and borders on character assassination."
Apparently there's no half steppin' in Swiss soccer.
