Several Players Kneel During National Anthem Before London Game (Updated)
Photo: Matt Dunham/ [object Object] In the earliest game of an NFL Sunday that’s expected to see the most widespread national anthem protests yet, several members of the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars took a knee during the American national anthem before this morning’s London game at Wembley Stadium.
Notable among the players was former Raven Ray Lewis, who has previously inserted himself into Colin Kaepernick’s offseason by trying to justify why Kaepernick doesn’t have a job. Jaguars owner Shad Khan (a Trump donor) was also seen on the field locking arms with standing players, which some took as a gesture of support and/or protest.
President Trump tweeted this morning that NFL players who are “disrespecting our Flag & Country” should be fired or suspended.
UPDATE (10:59 a.m. ET): Jaguars owner Shad Khan released a statement about his standing on the sidelines. “We have a lot of work to do, and we can do it, but the comments by the President make it harder,” he says.
