Saggy Pants Lead To College Football Player's Arrest In City Where Basically Everything Is Legal
Deshon Marman, a 20-year-old on the University of New Mexico football team, was arrested at San Francisco Airport yesterday after he refused to pull up his pants on an airplane:
Sgt. Michael Rodriguez says [Marman] was boarding a flight Wednesday to Albuquerque, N.M., when a U.S. Airways employee noticed his pants were "below his buttocks, but above the knees, and his boxer shorts were showing."
Rodriguez tells the San Francisco Chronicle that the employee asked Marman to pull up his pants, but he refused. She then asked him to leave the plane.
The officer says that after 15 minutes, Marman got off the plane and was cited for trespassing.
I grew up in a town that didn't have a public nudity law until 2007, so I'm having trouble understanding the offense here — especially in a city that basically runs on mellow anarchy.
Marman is reportedly being held on $11,000 bail and was scheduled for an arraignment today. His mother, Donna Doyle, told the AP that her son had attended a friend's funeral and was "still in an emotionally raw state." That's no excuse for gravity, apparently. And to think — this probably would have all blown over had he just been carrying some locally-sourced organic marijuana or something legal like that.
