Ryan Braun Taken Off Cover Of Jewish Sports Stars Book
Worse than losing $3.4 million in salary, worse than having his name taken off a chain of sports bars, worse than the besmirching of his Affliction-lite clothing brand, Ryan Braun has lost the cover of a kids' book about Jewish athletes.
The publisher of Jewish Sports Stars: Athletic Heroes Past and Present tells Publishers Weekly that Braun was slated to share the cover of the book's second edition with gymnast Aly Raisman, but publication had to be pushed back three months after Braun was popped for PED use and all-around dickishness.
“While Ryan Braun is a very talented baseball player and we were originally excited to have a contemporary sports figure of his talent and stature with such a strong identification to his Jewish heritage on the cover, there was no question that, after the steroids scandal surfaced, his image was tarnished and he was no longer appropriate to serve as a role model for Jewish kids.”
The book jacket was changed, but there wasn't time to correct the text. Instead, a note on the back flap cites Braun's MLB suspension. On the cover, he was replaced with Sandy Koufax, because of course.
