Russell Wilson Tops Deshaun Watson In A Dazzling Offensive Shootout
Photo: Stephen Brashear/ [object Object] In an extravagant game filled with 988 yards of total offense, Seattle’s Russell Wilson found a way to pull his team over the top, completing an 18-yard TD pass to Jimmy Graham with 21 seconds left to give the Seahawks a 41-38 win over the Texans.
For a moment earlier, however, it looked like Wilson had blown his chance. Down 38-34 with under three minutes to go, Wilson threw a pick in the red zone, returning the ball to an explosive Houston offense that had been carried by another great performance from QB Deshaun Watson and an outstanding 224 yards from DeAndre Hopkins—the most receiving yards for any wideout in a game this season so far. On just the previous drive, Hopkins ran 72 yards on a screen pass to score what could have been the decisive blow:
But Houston could only run five plays before punting, giving it back to Seattle with just under two minutes to play. And it only took Russell Wilson three passes to get the ball into the end zone—one of 48 yards, one for 19, and the winner, for 18:
A Watson interception, his third of the day, dashed any late hopes for a miracle, and Seattle escaped their normally secure home field with a four-game winning streak intact. Deshaun Watson is certainly one of the league’s most exciting young stars, and he reaffirmed that many times today. But Russell Wilson showed him that there’s still plenty left to learn.
