Rex Ryan Introduces Donald Trump, A Man Who Has Also Failed A Lot In New York, At Rally

Bills head coach Rex Ryan showed up at Donald Trump’s rally Monday in Buffalo; it would be nice to think that the two joined forces by bonding over their important fathers giving them a step up in their careers. In Ryan’s introduction, he expressed admiration for Trump showing the courage to say what others think but won’t say. The video:

There’s so many things I admire about Mr. Trump, but one thing I really admire about him is, you know what, he’ll say what’s on his mind. And so many times, you’ll see people, a lot of people want to say the same thing. But there’s a big difference. They don’t have the courage to say it. They all think it, but they don’t have the courage to say it. And Donald Trump certainly has the courage to say it.

This made us think. Which things said by Donald Trump does Rex Ryan admire? We asked a Bills spokesperson:

I’m a writer for Deadspin, and I had some questions regarding Rex Ryan’s appearance at Donald Trump’s rally last night. Rex said that he admires Trump for his courage to say things other people are thinking. Could he clarify what he meant by that? To make it easier, I rounded up a few quotes. He can say yes if he agrees with any of these, or no if he doesn’t. Consider all of these as separate questions.

In April of 2015, on Barack Obama: “Our great African American President hasn’t exactly had a positive impact on the thugs who are so happily and openly destroying Baltimore!”

In June of 2015, on Mexicans: “They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

In July of 2015: “I’m not going to Mexico. And I don’t think anybody from this country [should]. I think we should boycott Mexico, frankly.”

In December of 2015, he advocated banning all Muslims from the United States “until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.”

In 1989: “A well-educated black has a tremendous advantage over a well-educated white in terms of the job market. I think sometimes a black may think they don’t have an advantage or this and that ... I’ve said on one occasion, even about myself, if I were starting off today, I would love to be a well-educated black, because I believe they do have an actual advantage.”

In 1991: “You know, it doesn’t really matter what they write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of ass.”

In 2005: “A woman who is very flat-chested is very hard to be a 10.”

We haven’t heard back and will update if we do, but in the meantime we will assume that Rex Ryan thinks that lots of people hold these bad opinions but are just too afraid to say so, and that it’s praiseworthy to express them.
