Reports: Yankees sign LHP Tyler Matzek to minor league deal

Mandatory Credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images The New York Yankees agreed to a minor league deal with left-hander Tyler Matzek, MassLive and the New York Post reported Monday.
The 34-year-old veteran will add some bullpen depth to the reigning American League champions. From 2020 to 2022, he was an effective reliever for the Atlanta Braves.
Matzek's peak came in 2021. He made 69 appearances, posting a 2.57 ERA and a 1.222 WHIP. He was an integral piece of Atlanta's World Series run, recording a 1.72 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 15 2/3 postseason innings.
Matzek missed the entire 2023 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
The left-hander returned for the 2024 campaign but struggled with a 9.90 ERA in 11 games. He dealt with elbow inflammation and landed on the 60-day IL.
In July, he was traded to the San Francisco Giants as part of the Jorge Soler deal, but he made only five minor league appearances before being released.
The Braves signed him to a minor league deal for the remainder of the 2024 season.
