Reports: The Seahawks Are Fed Up With Marshawn Lynch
Marshawn Lynch is the latest Seahawks player to find his name at the center of reports about the apparent melodrama that continues to play out in the team's locker room. According to multiple reports, Lynch has fallen out of favor with the organization, and the team does not plan to bring him back next year.
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the Seahawks would have put Lynch on the trading block this year had injuries not depleted their backfield depth, and that nobody expects him to be back with the team next year. It doesn't seem to have been any one thing in particular that turned the organization on Lynch, but rather a general weariness:
The organization has grown tired of his ways, including pulling a no-show at the White House Super Bowl ceremony, his training camp holdout and his possible contribution to locker-room distractions.
Almost nobody — including Lynch — expects the running back to be on the roster in 2015, sources added.
Meanwhile, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport is reporting that Lynch has essentially ceased communication with head coach Pete Carroll and others in the organization:
Lynch has been productive this season, but he is 28 years old and running backs don't usually age well, so it's not crazy for the Seahawks to want to dump him in the offseason. The team didn't cede much when Lynch held out during the offseason, either, making it pretty clear they weren't in any huge hurry to get him re-signed.
But the fact that the Seahawks reportedly considered trading him this season is just as surprising as the decision to trade Percy Harvin was. Lynch and Harvin were set to be two of the offense's key cogs, and the fact that both were deemed expendable just a few weeks into the season suggests things really are getting pretty bad in the Seahawks' locker room.
