Reports: Jorge Jesus expected to take over as Portugal coach

Mandatory Credit: Victor Fraile-Imagn Images Portugal intends to hire Jorge Jesus to replace Roberto Martinez as head coach, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola.
Martinez stepped down following Portugal's loss to Spain in the 2026 World Cup round of 16. The 1-0 loss was final for mere minutes when Martinez stepped aside.
"It is the end of the cycle," Martinez said. "It is important now to have that again -- and it is legitimate for the president to choose his national team coach. I am grateful for all the support they gave me."
A Bola reported a meeting was set between Jesus, 71, and Pedro Proenca, president of the Portuguese Football Federation.
Jesus most recently piloted Saudi Pro League side, Al Nassr, to the league title last season with a roster that featured Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo.
Jesus has coached Portugal's Benfica and Sporting Lisbon and Turkish side Fenerbahce. Jesus played professionally from 1973-90 before beginning his coaching career with Amora.
