Report: Yu Darvish Tipped His Pitches In The World Series
Photo credit: Tim Bradbury/ [object Object] Remember how awful Dodgers starter Yu Darvish was in the World Series? He only made it through 10 outs in two starts. He allowed nine hits, eight earned runs, and two homers. He sucked big-time! Now, thanks to Sports Illustrated, we know why.
Verducci says he spoke to an Astros player who explained that Darvish was badly tipping his pitches in both World Series starts. From SI:
According to a Houston player, the Astros often knew what Darvish was about to throw by the way he brought the ball into his glove in the set position. (Darvish pitches exclusively out of the stretch.) The player said it worked like this: Darvish holds the ball at his side when he gets the sign from the catcher. Whether he re-grips or not as he brings the ball into his glove was the tip-off whether he was going to throw a slider/cutter or a fastball.
That seems like something Darvish or someone on the Dodgers coaching staff should have flagged before the goddamn World Series. Nice going, dummies.
