Report: The Rams Are Considering Going After Peyton Manning
Here’s a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter that will make you arch your eyebrows and say, “What? Haha. Wait, what?”
The Rams have had internal discussions about bringing Peyton Manning to Los Angeles should he want to play another season, per a league source.
Manning still is under contract to the Broncos for another year, but most around the league do not expect him to return to Denver next season, if he returns at all.
Manning still must decide whether he wants to play again, and the Rams still are formulating their quarterback plans. But they are monitoring the Manning situation, per a source, which is a sign that the Broncos quarterback could have options next season.
It’s extremely unlikely that this will happen, as Manning has given every indication that he will retire after playing in the Super Bowl. But the Rams even glancing in Manning’s direction speaks to how anxious they are about convincing a brand new fanbase to fill their stadium next year.
A deeply mediocre team quarterbacked by Nick Foles isn’t exactly a big draw for the citizens of Los Angeles, so why not try and convince one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time to drop in for a farewell tour and sell some tickets? Everything worked out so well when they tried to do the same thing with Joe Namath in 1977.
