Report: The Clippers Are Trying To Win Back DeAndre Jordan
Apparently convinced that their offseason wasn’t already embarrassing enough, the Clippers are now trying to convince DeAndre Jordan, who has already agreed to sign with the Mavericks, to go back on his deal with Dallas before it becomes official and stay in L.A. Or so says ESPN’s Marc Stein:
... sources said that the Clippers have pushed to secure a meeting Wednesday in Houston for coach/team president Doc Rivers and possibly owner Steve Ballmer to make one last face-to-face pitch to Jordan in an attempt to convince him to walk away from the four-year, $80-plus million max deal he committed to with the Mavericks and instead stay with L.A.
Sources say that some Clippers players have been in contact in recent days as well with Jordan, who informed both teams of his decision last Friday and then flew to his offseason home in Houston.
This is the good stuff. The Clippers effectively chased Jordan out of town by flunking their original pitch meeting with him and letting their star point guard— who apparently spent the last season being a dick to Jordan—go hang out on a banana boat in the Bahamas instead of trying to convince their young center to stay. And now they decide that they deserve another shot at wooing Jordan, because the first round of meetings didn’t play out fairly:
Doc Rivers is probably standing outside of Jordan’s house right now with a boombox raised over his head.
And the craziest thing? It just might work.
I love the NBA.
