Report: Seahawks Lineman Rees Odhiambo Suffered A Bruised Heart
Photo: Elaine Thompson/ [object Object] One day after Seattle Seahawks left tackle Rees Odhiambo was stretchered out of the locker room following a hit to the chest, Odhiambo remains in the hospital. A report from Adam Schefter says that doctors believe the lineman has a cardiac contusion, or a bruised heart. From ESPN:
The source told Schefter that Odhiambo is still meeting with cardiologists to determine the exact injury and how long he’ll be out. If his heart is bleeding, he could miss a month or more. If it’s merely bruised, he could be sidelined for as little as a week. The injury that Odhiambo suffered is found most often in people involved in car accidents.
Odhiambo initially tried to continue playing after the hit; head coach Pete Carroll said after the game that the hit “ knocked the wind out of him.” Because Odhiambo had trouble breathing, however, he left the field and went to the hospital. The lineman is in stable condition, Carroll said.
Odhiambo, who was drafted in 2016 by the Seahawks, has started all four games this season. The fact that a football player could experience an injury of this severity and not immediately leave the game is both astounding and terrifying.
