Report: LeBron James Signs Tyronn Lue To An Extension
Photo credit: Roland Martinez/ [object Object] According to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers have signed Tyronn Lue to a five-year extension to serve as head coach.
Lue helped steer the Cavaliers to the first 3-1 series comeback in NBA Finals history this year. As with any coach or teammate of LeBron James, his value is defined by his relationship to James and is therefore a bit tricky to determine. Remember, Mo Williams was an all-star in 2009 and Mike Brown won a coach of the year award.
However, Lue, unlike David Blatt, managed to stand up to James, which he always responds well to. Back in May, Lue told James to shut the fuck up and James only seemed to respect him more for it. Also, the Cavs seem to actually like him.
As Woj points out, Lue turned down a three-year, $9.5 million extension during the middle of the season, and his gamble paid off handsomely. His new deal will make him one of the higher-paid NBA head coaches.
