Report: Kobe Bryant Has "No Interest" In Playing For Mike D'Antoni
You have to feel a bit for Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni, who was brought in to a bad team that didn't fit his style, but if various anonymously sourced reports have any validity, players don't have a ton of love for him either.
D'Antoni's feud with Pau Gasol has already spilled over into public comments. Stephen A. Smith passed along word yesterday that he's been told D'Antoni's out after the season, if for no other reason that the Lakers could pursue Carmelo Anthony in free agency and Anthony definitely wouldn't crave a reunion with his old coach.
And now comes a report from the Sporting News, citing "multiple sources" claiming D'Antoni will indeed be out after the season because Kobe Bryant, who earlier this week was announced as done for the year, wants to play for a new coach, and has "no interest" in suiting up for D'Antoni again.
Really, none of this matters. The Lakers suck, and Bryant doesn't have time to wait out a true rebuild, and the Busses will indulge him, so D'Antoni will be let go even if he were everyone's best friend. The only question is when, and if he was able to survive last week's Clippers debacle, they might as well let him finish up the season. With Mike Brown still on the books and D'Antoni's deal running through 2015, the Lakers will likely be paying three coaches next year—and none of them will be Phil Jackson.
