Report: District Attorney And Police Department At Odds Over LeSean McCoy Case
The Philadelphia District Attorney’s office has been noticeably silent regarding its plans for LeSean McCoy. News of the bar fight he was allegedly involved in broke over a week ago, and that was quickly followed by reports that charges against McCoy were imminent. But there hasn’t been any movement since then, and now CSN Philadelphia is reporting that the delay is due to rising tension between the D.A. and police department
From CSN Philly:
According to law enforcement officials, tension between the District Attorney’s office and PPD has risen over the last few days because of the delay in charging McCoy and three other men for their alleged role in a fight at Recess Lounge in Old City early on the morning of Feb. 7. Sources told CSNPhilly.com that the D.A.’s office is hesitant to issue warrants because it has questions about the conduct of the officers that evening, including that the officers did not call 9-1-1 during the incident and whether they were drinking to excess.
We don’t know much about who or what started the fight, other than the fact that it apparently had something to do with a disagreement over champagne bottles. Videos claiming to show the brawl haven’t offered much clarity, either, but this report makes it sound like the off-duty cops may have been instigators as well as victims. It’s hard to imagine that McCoy and his friends won’t eventually be charged with something, but the D.A. isn’t proceeding like this is a slam-dunk case.
