Report: DeMarco Murray Told Eagles' Owner He's Frustrated With Chip Kelly's Offense
According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, Eagles running back DeMarco Murray has become so unhappy with head coach Chip Kelly’s offense that he recently aired his grievances to team owner Jeff Lurie.
Murray’s justifiably frustrated, as he came to the Eagles as one of the most productive feature backs in the league, but has had a rough time trying to find his way in a hapless offense. He’s gotten just 163 rushing attempts this year (he amassed a mind-boggling 392 in 2015), and is averaging just 3.5 yards per carry; of course he’s fed up with Chip Kelly’s play calling.
Murray’s behind-the-scenes griping won’t be the killing blow to Kelly’s tenure, but it certainly doesn’t help to have a running back at odds with his coach. Kelly’s got bigger problems, anyway. He still needs to fix his non-functional offense before the season is over; last week’s win over the Patriots should be entirely credited to the defense and special teams. If Kelly can’t do that, Murray’s protestations won’t matter much, because Chip might find himself out of a job.
