Report: Charles Oakley Arrested In Las Vegas After Gambling Mishap
credits: Jason Miller | source: Getty Knicks icon Charles Oakley was reportedly arrested at a Las Vegas casino on July 8. Per TMZ Sports, the 54-year-old attempted to pull a chip he had wagered off of the table:
Officials from the Nevada Gaming Board tell us Oakley “was suspected of adding to or reducing his wager on a gambling game after the outcome was known.”
Unclear what game he was playing at the time — but one source with knowledge of the incident says Oak tried to pull back a $100 chip after he realized he was going to lose.
Modifying a bet in this way is illegal under Nevada law NRS 465.070, which deals with “fraudulent acts” in a gaming establishment. It’s a category B felony and conviction for a first offense could end in imprisonment for 1 to 6 years, a fine less than $10,000, or both. TMZ reports that a source close to Oakley deemed the incident to be “insignificant.”
