Report: Baylor Settles With Former Student Sexually Assaulted By Football Player
In August, then-Baylor football player Sam Ukwuachu was found guilty of sexual assault and sentenced to 180 days in jail. And now the woman he was found guilty of assaulting, a former Baylor student, has settled with the university, the .
A lawyer for the woman, John Clune, told the Morning News that “the matter has been satisfactorily resolved,” and did not give any other details. According to the Morning News, no lawsuit had been filed.
That Baylor would want to settle isn’t shocking considering all the details that came out during Ukwuachu’s trial about how poorly the university handled the accusations. The university cleared him in a cursory investigation that never sought out key evidence against the player. While Ukwuachu awaited trial, the program gave veiled answers about why he was absent from teach activities. And after the conviction Baylor kept issuing press releases—and didn’t release the results of any inquiries into what they might have done wrong.
As for Ukwuachu, he’s out on bail while appealing his conviction.
