Report: Bars Now Off Limits For Florida State Football Players
After a meeting with head coach Jimbo Fisher on Saturday morning, Florida State football players have been told bars are off limits, according to Jim Henry of The Tallahassee Democrat. The school will also bring in “professionals” to meet with players, per Henry.
The Florida State football program has had a nightmare week, with two players accused of hitting women while out on the town. Running back Dalvin Cook allegedly punched a woman “several times” in the face outside of a bar, and was suspended indefinitely by the team Friday. De’Andre Johnson was seen on video punching a woman at a bar, and was kicked off the team Monday.
Now, Henry tweeted out the news after hearing about the meeting, so the details are a little scarce here. Is this an actual hard ban for football players? It seems like it would be a tough rule to enforce for the coaching staff. (And realistically an unfair one, even if no one is complaining about restricting Florida State players right now. Of course, players can be unilaterally imposed with such rules because they don’t have a union.)
Avoiding bars in Tallahassee is easier said than done, but if you’re a Florida State football player, it’s probably best to lay low for a while.
