Mandatory Credit: Mitch Stringer-Imagn Images The contract of Houston Astros' hitting coach Alex Cintron will not be renewed, according to The Athletic on Thursday.
After a nine-year playing career, Cintron, 46, started with the organization in 2017 and was promoted to hitting coach after the 2019 season. He earned a World Series ring with the Astros in 2022.
He signed a three-year contract following the 2022 season, which expired at the end of the 2025 campaign.
This season, after leading the American League West on Sept. 17, Houston lost six of its next seven games. They were shut out twice and scored one run in a 5-1 loss to the Athletics on Sept. 23.
The Astros missed the playoffs for the first time in nine seasons. They finished 21st in MLB with 4.23 runs per game and general manager Dana Brown promised to take "a complete look at all of our operations."
According to multiple reports, hitting coach Troy Snitker and catching coach Michael Collins also won't return. Snitker is the son of former Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker.
